you are here: Trees with better roots!

Better Roots Means Better Trees!

Anyone who has ever bought a plant from a garden centre, taken it home and released it from it's pot will know that the roots will probably have circled around the pot many times, the plant could even be pot bound with very little compost left in the pot. Good gardeners will know to tease these roots out into a more natural pattern before planting so as to help the plant establish itself quicker. Wouldn't it be great if the roots on the plant stopped growing when they reach the edge of the pot and the plant grew many more roots because of this, with all of them pointing in a radial pattern?

Airpot

Well thats exactly how Airpots work. The pots have lots of small holes down the sides. When the roots reach these holes, the tip of the root dehydrates due to the air to compost ratio and stops growing. The response from the tree to this air pruning is to send out more roots to compensate for this loss, which leads to a dense and fibrous root system.

The porosity of the Air-Pot also creates better conditions for bacterial activity and thus increases the amount of nutrients available to the plant. With so much root right back to the stem, the root system is very efficient in its use of all the available water and nutrient. Plant vigour and health is therefore guaranteed.

Walnut tree roots grown in an AirpotThis cross section of a Walnut tree shows how good the root system can be using Airpots. Note the denseness of the root system caused by the air pruning system of the airpot. The root system is completely radial from the stem and the individual roots are not deformed as they would be in a traditional pot. We believe the most important part of a tree is its roots and you can't get better than the roots on our trees!
